This outreach project serves the Arroyo Seco region by building knowledge and understanding of our shared history and our identity as a cultural center dating back to the earliest days of Los Angeles.

Support for nature-based hikes designed to improve opportunities for outdoor physical activity with a nature focus. In doingso, we encourage outdoor recreation and healthy living in Northeast Los Angeles communities. A grant from ASNC would also enhance existing nature hikes and help us develop new programs aimed at a broader audience: primarily women and familieswith children from the low-income and Latino neighborhoods surrounding Debs Park. Activities would include:

  • Women’s Fitness Hike – A bi-lingual fitness professional leads a monthly hike designed specifically for women who are new to the outdoors, or uncomfortable walking in a park environment. Goals include teaching good hiking techniques, health benefitinformation, and safety in the outdoors. Audubon Center staff provide free child care for participants.

  • Family Nature Hikes – Monthly hikes designed for families with children ages 3 to 10. Participants learn about Debs Park’s natural history. Content varies from season to season.
