Leading up to the election of 12 representatives to help represent our communities to the City of L.A for the next two years , the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council will hold an Election Informational meeting this coming Monday at beginning of its regular monthly Board of Representatives Meeting, 7 p.m. at Los Angeles International Charter High School in Hermon. The street address is: 625 Coleman Ave. 90042 - but enter off Lomitas Drive, south of Via Marisol. OR, attend one of the two candidate workshops plannned in the coming weeks (details follow).
OUR NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL
The Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council (ASNC) was certified in 2002 under the Charter of the City of Los Angeles to advise its elected officials and departments regarding local and citywide governmental issues on behalf of the stakeholders of SYCAMORE GROVE, MOUNT WASHINGTON, MONTEREY HILLS, MONTECITO HEIGHTS, and HERMON.
It is, effectively, the focused voice of these communities on a whole range of important issues: the delivery of city services, public safety, land use and open space, economic development, the environment, arts and culture, and more. In the past five years, the ASNC has also dedicated more than $100,000 from the City funds it is provided to neighborhood improvement projects and community building events.
Become a registered stakeholder in order to vote for candidates of your choice by filling out the new expanded Stakeholder Registration form at www.asnc.us (And, mailers have just been sent to all addresses within the ASNC area).
You may register by mail or in person. [A business or organization may also obtain forms and instructions from the web at www.asnc.us] No one who affirms his/her stake in the community will be denied the chance to vote.
BECOME A CANDIDATE
To be a candidate for the Board of Representatives, you must be a registered stakeholder in one of the five member communities and complete the candidate filing form (also available at www.asnc.us) . You may only file as a candidate for one Board position, even if you are eligible for more than one category.
There are a total of 19 positions on the ASNC board. Six of the twelve Geographic and all seven At-Large Representative positions are up for election this year.
ALL POSITIONS ARE NOW FOR TWO-YEAR TERMS:
• GEOGRAPHIC -- Twelve representing specific communities:
- four from Mount Washington (TWO to be elected in 2008);
- two from Montecito Heights, two from Monterey Hills, two from Hermon, and two from Sycamore Grove (ONE from each of those four communities to be elected in 2008);
• AT-LARGE -- SEVEN representing community-wide interests (ALL to be elected in 2008):
- retail, wholesale & service businesses;
- faith-based organizations; - education & youth;
- recreation, culture, & the arts;
- environment; community non-profits;
- healthcare & seniors |

HOW TO FILE
Return the candidate filing form (and stakeholder registration if new to the ASNC), to the Independent Election Administrator (IEA) at: P.O. Box 41048, Los Angeles, CA 90041 -- by October 17 with a copy of any document that verifies your stakeholder status in one community. This may include: driver's license, utility bill, rent receipt, work or school identification, and others.
DEADLINES FOR RECEIPT OF FORMS AND VERIFYING DOCUMENTS
OCTOBER 17, 2008 for name to appear on printed ballot mailed to registered stakeholders OCTOBER 24, 2008 for candidate statement to be included in the voter information package

INFO FOR CANDIDATES
Each candidate is invited to submit a statement of up to 100 words in support of his or her candidacy any time prior to the day before the election. If received by October 24, 2008 - before ballots are mailed out, the statement will be distributed with election information during pre-election stakeholder outreach. Candidates, their representatives, or supporters, are prohibited from distributing information and/or electioneering in support of their candidacy within 100 feet of the election site on election day.
Candidate filing forms must be received by October 17, 2008, in order for the candidate to be included in the printed ballots. A stakeholder may file as a write-in candidate for the Board on any date prior to the day of the election, November 24, 2008.
Candidates are invited to attend a Candidate's Workshop at 7 PM, on September 24 at Ramona Hall (4580 N. Figueroa St., L.A. 90042) and at 6:30 PM on October 5 at Fellowship Hall (5800 Monterey Road, L.A. 90042) where they will be briefed on election requirements and procedures, expectations, responsibilities and obligations if they are elected.
On November 7 at 7:00 PM, at Fellowship Hall (5800 Monterey Road, L.A. 90042) a Candidates' Forum will be held for each candidate to present a 90-second speech regarding his/her candidacy, and to allow stakeholders to ask questions or speak with them further (following all speeches).

ELECTION DAY

Stakeholders who haven't mailed in ballots may vote in person from 4 PM to 8 PM at Ramona Hall. An Independent Election Adminstrator will oversee voting. After 8 p.m., ballots will be counted by the designated election volunteers. No candidate will participate in the counting or tabulation of ballots, but may observe the process. Provisional results will be announced on completion of the process.
