ASNC Board Openings - due to resignations

What's a great puzzle with several pieces missing?

The Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council, a Los Angeles City-certified advisory group for five neighboring Northeast communities is "missing" some key pieces in it's current board due to resignations.

This may be your opportunity to serve your community, advise local government, help determine how to spend up to 50,000 tax dollars to improve the quality of local life -- if you are a stakeholder* in Monterey Hills, Mount Washington, Sycamore Grove, Montecito Heights, or Hermon.

No previous community organizing experience required, learn as you help represent and work with your neighbors, along with the other 18 dedicated ASNC representatives. (Remember that another now-famous "community organizer" has since gone on the inhabit the White House -- no guarantee of similar advancement implied).

New board members appointed to fill these vacancies will hold their positions though Summer 2010:

-- AT-LARGE Healthcare and Seniors Representative

-- SYCAMORE GROVE Geographic Repreesentative (representing more than 4,000 stakeholders within the approximate area surrounding Figueroa Street between Mount Washington and Montecito Heights; see ASNC Bylaws - Article XII, for exact boundaries)

For more information about these positions, and a full map of ASNC boundaries, see www.asnc.us (this website).

All candidates for these openings must be valid stakeholders* of the ASNC area, and the geographic representative needs to be a stakeholder of the Sycamore Grove community. An at large position can be held by a stakeholder from any of the five ASNC communities. Candidates will be asked to provide some proof of stakeholder status. Deadline for submissions is currently Monday, April 20 unless extended by board action at its next meeting.

Assuming there are valid candidates, the ASNC board may appoint replacements under its standing rules for one or both of these available seats at the next scheduled monthly meeting, Monday, April 27, at the Jack & Denny Smith Library and Community Center at Mount Washington Elementary School.

All interested persons should phone or e-mail the ASNC (see following contacts), to receive forms and provide a 100-word statement, which will be distributed via e-mail and on the ASNC website. Candidates will also be asked to speak to the board during the April meeting.

* ASNC STAKEHOLDERS are any: "individuals who live, work, own property, or are parents or guardians of students attending school within ASNC boundaries, or who declare a stake in any one of its five communities and affirm the factual basis. . ."
