Re: Board Orientation Trainings for New Board Members

Dear Neighborhood Council Leaders and Stakeholders,

In order to help new Neighborhood Council board members serve their communities effectively, the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment is offering two Board Orientation Trainings for New Board Members on January 23, 2008 and January 24, 2008.

Each of these trainings will present information regarding:

• The roles and responsibilities of Neighborhood Council board members
• How the Neighborhood Councils can make their voices heard through filing Community Impact Statements with the City Council
• What board members must know about hosting open, public meetings, as required by California 's Brown Act
• The Neighborhood Council Funding Program
• An Introduction to Outreach and Communications for Neighborhood Councils

On Wednesday, January 23, 2008 (pdf flyer) the Orientation will take place in the East Area of the City, beginning at 6:00 PM.

On Thursday, January 24, 2008 (pdf flyer) the Orientation will take place in the South Los Angeles Area of the City, beginning at 5:30 PM.

We strongly urge new board members to attend one or both of these important training sessions. All are welcome. For more details regarding the training sessions, please see attached flyers. Parking is free and light refreshments are provided at each meeting.
