Ruiz encourages residents to let Department of Public Works speakers address neighborhood meetings about specific community services from illegal dumping removals to restoring streetlight outages. “While we urge Los Angeles residents to dial 3-1-1 to report any non-emergency public works service needed,” says Ruiz, “it is also useful to take full advantage of the many opportunities to interface with our staff, learn about vital services available and address specific concerns unique to neighborhoods.” Such public works-related concerns often become the center of attention at community forums and neighborhood meetings. “In most instances, our staff can address, research, follow up and help resolve these important concerns for residents and their communities,” says Ruiz. “We are always pleased when we can resolve issues and report good results,” she adds. “Of course, this happens frequently when city government is in partnership with citizens who understand how to access these services and feel empowered to help make a difference in their communities.” To schedule a speaker, contact:

With a $559 million operating budget, the department awards more than $500 million in public service contracts annually.
