~~~ Mt. Washington ASNC RE-VOTE - Cover Letter for Stakeholders ~~~
Dear Mount Washington ASNC Stakeholder:
The enclosed ballot and the four candidate names it lists may look somewhat familiar to you. A larger, more inclusive ballot for Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council 2007 General Election was mailed out this past year, and many of you voted then. However, unfinished business remains. We need your help to complete it quickly so that TWO new Mount Washington representatives can be seated on your behalf next month to serve for the next two years.
Following is an update on the November 2007 ASNC election, which should help explain why we need you to exercise your right to vote, possibly for a second time, as a registered stakeholder in our City-certified neighborhood council – an official advisory board to Los Angeles' elected officials.
(from the L.A. Human Relations Commission decision, Final Decision Maker [FDM] for neighborhood council elections).
-- In early November 2007, ballots were mailed to all registered ASNC stakeholders, including nearly 500 from Mount Washington. After the mailing was completed, it was discovered that it contained conflicting instructions that may have resulted in some stakeholders not fully exercising their right to vote for 2 (TWO) Mount Washington regional representatives.
-- Numerous efforts were made by the ASNC to correct any impressions that might limit the response, including the mailing of an advisory postcard and sending several e-mail messages to those voters for which the ASNC possessed e-mail addresses.
-- Following tabulation of the results, a stakeholder challenged the election, based primarily on a much larger number of stakeholders having voted for only one Mount Washington representative, rather than two.
-- After reviewing the printed errors, the attempts to correct them, and the potential loss of eligible votes in what was a relatively close election, the City FDM agreed with the basis of the election challenge and has required the ASNC to hold an official revote of all registered Mount Washington stakeholders All other ASNC communities' representatives were seated in January 2007, with Mount Washington representatives to follow based on this revote.
Now comes your part – and it should only take a few minutes. Please review the list of four candidates and their statements, select those you would like to have represent you in the TWO open seats on the ASNC Board, and mail your ballot in the enclosed return envelope. You may also choose to hand-deliver your ballot on the revote day, Monday, March 24, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mount Washington Elementary School (see ballot for full details).
Respectfully,
Your Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council Board, 2008
P.S. Thank you for taking part in this important election of advisors to City government. To help get your new votes to the Independent Election Administrator quickly and easily, postage has already been paid for your ballot's return.
NOTE: Anyone who's not already a registered Mt. Washington ASNC stakeholder can both register as one and vote on the RE-VOTE Day (March 24, 2008).
