Please see rundown on the 5 candidates that follows, with their statements.

Each has been informed they need to attend next Monday's board meeting (names will be on the agenda - statement in board packet and on Web?) and bring along proof of stakeholder status.  They're expecting to intro themselves and have the board vote on them as mid-year replacements.

Candidate to fill the ASNC At-Large Recreation, Culture & the Arts Rep vacancy (1):

J MICHAEL WALKER is a Montecito Heights-based narrative artist and self-taught historian credited with more than 85 international exhibitions.  His dozen grants, fellowships, and residencies include five awards from Los Angeles Cultural Affairs. "All the Saints of the City of the Angels" is his ongoing public art project -- a way to approach L.A.'s complex, little-known early history and cultural evolution. In addition to works on paper, the project also encompasses public installations, two books, and public presentations. J. Michael's work is grounded in his immersion in the rural Mexican culture into which he married more than 25 years ago.

Candidate to fill an ASNC Sycamore Grove Geographic Rep vacancy (1):

SYLVIA ROBLEDO: I am a resident property owner in Sycamore Grove seeking the opportunity to represent this area. A deep concern about quality of life and safety issues is the main factor motivating me; furthermore, community policing is a relevant issue about which my neighbors need more information.  Many of my neighbors are concerned citizens but need a little extra help in contacting the right decision makers to continue to make this wonderful area a better place to live.  The neighborhood is friendly and I enjoy my daily walk with my dog Cleo viewing its beautiful gardens and Craftsman homes.

Candidates to fill an ASNC Monterey Hills Geographic Rep vacancy (1):

JEREMY DILLARD: I have been a homeowner in Monterey Hills for the past four years and my wife and I truly enjoy the quality of life this community has to offer.  We start our days with morning walks on Via Marisol and Monterey Road and we constantly notice things that can be improved.  We have also seen the tremendous increase in the property values for our neighborhood.  I want to represent the Monterey Hills community to continue the improvements in the quality of life and property values.  I wish to thank you for your vote

SARA I. LOPEZ: A resident of Monterey Hills since December 1989, she went to private Catholic girls only school, where she was always the best student. She graduated in Chemical and Industrial Engineering in 1975, and has an MBA from USF in 1984.  Sara is a senior administrative analyst in MWD where she prepares report of capital projects.  She is also a real estate and insurance broker, running her own small business for the last 21 years. Sara has two sons: a dentist, and a 17-year-old, who is an honor student at La Salle High School. She is an active member in her homeowners association, MHF, and her son's PTO.  She likes to help increasing the number of stakeholders. Create ventures with neighborhood communities for the good of all.

* DARLENE ROKER: I have lived in Monterey Hills since Dec. 2003 and have been part of the ASNC board since January 2007. The 20-plus condo/rental complexes here on the hill deserve an active, dedicated representative to look after their own interests. Elect me as this representative so that I may be their voice in our neighborhood council.

* Note: Darlene is currently the At-Large Healthcare & Seniors Rep for the ASNC and will resign that position if elected as a geographic rep for her home community.
