Disabled Mount Washington Residents Needing Assistance During
Emergency Evacuation
Background: The City needs help to identify Mount Washington
residents who require special assistance in the event of an emergency
evacuation. The LAPD has responsibility for evacuating an area.
Many disabled resident's needed special assistance to evacuate their
homes during the recent Griffith Park fire. The evacuation would
have gone much faster and more smoothly had the LAPD known the
residents special needs prior to the actual evacuation. The
experience highlighted the importance of having a well-thought out
plan in place.
Planning Action: Given the extreme fire hazard conditions expected
this year, LAPD Northeast Division Senior Lead Officer (SLO) Chris
Cooper and Council District 14 have begun compiling a list of
residents needing special assistance so an emergency evacuation,
should one become necessary, can occur in a timely and safe manner.
SLO Cooper has asked me to assist with this effort as I am the Mount
Washington Community-Police Advisory Board member.
If you will need special assistance to evacuate please contact me or
