Details of motion proposed by Joe Riser (see Agenda item #9)
Community Impact Statement:
In support of Council Motion 07-0049 (Hahn - Garcetti)
That the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners be requested to schedule five-year status reports from certified neighborhood councils to check in on how these groups are progressing and what issues and concerns they have with the overall neighborhood council system, including their relations with Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) and the City Council.
(referred) To Education & Neighborhoods Committee
Suggested text of ASNC CIS:
The Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council commends city councilmembers' efforts to have certified neighborhood councils review their first five years of work, reporting to BONC as the certifying authority. ASNC further recommends that whereas neighborhood councils were created to be advisory boards to city government, that city councilmembers and their staff also be responsible for reporting on the effectiveness of our boards in working with them on local concerns. The ASNC one of more than 50 councils certified in 2002 will establish a review process of its own, regardless of the disposition of this council file. |
