Mt Washington Association Offers Free
Red Flags As “Neighborhood Alerts”
The Mount Washington Association is providing red
flags to residents who wish to help inform neighbors
when “Red Flag Alert” parking restrictions are placed
in effect by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The flags are designed to be placed in front of
residents' homes whenever a Red Flag alert has been
issued by the a Los Angeles Fire Department. To obtain
a red flag from the Mount Washington Association,
email Cheri Uno, the Association' s Public Safety
Chair, at ctuno@pacbell.net or call 323/222-0410.
Residents who wish to participate in the program are
asked to register their email addresses at http://www.lafd. org/redflag/ (the LAFD's Red Flag
Alert site). The LAFD will send email notification
when a Red Flag Alert is declared. Alternately,
residents can contact the 311 Operator to confirm that
the City of Los Angeles is in a Red Flag situation.
Although local news outlets have agreed to broadcast
Red Flag notifications during traffic, and weather
segments they do not differentiate between County and
City Red Flag Alerts, which often differ.
